How we wear ours

Here at Dinny Hall we love pairing our DH jewels with a mixture of trends and different pieces. We thought we would share some of our favourite looks with you in time for christmas.

Amelie, our Liberty concession boss and senior retail manager (French and Fabulous) has styled our Toro Sterling Silver Bracelet (£450) with a classic Kenzo Leather jacket, Haider Ackermann Boots and Laura Mericer Lipstick in Sangaria.

Clare, our head of Jewellery (soon to be yummy mummy, thirty something and knows a thing or two about glamour) like to pair her Dinny Hall Sterling Silver Large Bamboo Hoops (£140) with her favourite pair of Kurt Geiger courts and RHIE velvet dress and her handbag essential Laura Mercier Fig Handcream.

Imy, our lovely intern (young and right on trend) has choosen her Dinny Hall Large Toro Pendant  in 22K Gold Vermeil (£375) and stacked her everyday favourite two Wave rings in 22K Gold Vermeil (£85) with her new Topshop Feather Jumper and Faux Croc Tote.

Laura, my creative assistant (in her twenties quirky and chic) has teamed her Marc by Marc Jacobs playsuit with Nanette Lepore Gold Shoes with NEW Dinny Hall Almaz Diamond Hoop earrings (Coming Soon) with a lick of Nars Andy Warhol Nail Varnish for a little splash of colour.

Shai, our Westbourne Grove manager (yummy mummy and always looking super stylish) loves to wear her Talitha Statement Earrings in 22K Gold Vermeil (£455) with some chunky heel topshop boots, Superfine Silk panel jeans and Haider Ackermann Shawl for that perfect stylist winter look.

Mirror mirror on the wall...

This month, to celebrate Halloween, we decided to go gothic with a dark fairy tale theme in our shops Westbourne Grove and Upper Street.

DON'T LOOSE YOUR STUDS - To avoid loosing your little stud earrings, link them together using the butterflies like this:

POUCHES- Don't always dump your jewellery in your handbag - always carry a pouch or little box to keep it safe. Look out for our new pouches coming soon!

SILVER DIP- Has your silver gone a funny colour?
The best way to clean up tarnished, dull looking silver jewellery is to dip it in a chemical called silver dip. You can buy this at good supermarkets, and also at Waitrose Online. Alternatively, throughout October, we invite you to bring your Dinny Hall jewellery into one of our stand-alone London stores Westbourne Grove or Upper Street, and we'll dip it for you .

~OUT ON THE TOWN~

It's time for a little focus on the contemporary art world now that Frieze is on a again in Regents Park. I ventured out to the Lisson Gallery opening of Anish Kapoor's new work and very colourful it is too.
Nancy Fouts- Moniker Art Fair
Anish Kapoor- Lisson Gallery

You can see me standing with a green aura in front of one of his giant green convex bowl like installations above.

There's a lot more art to see over the next few days, but take a look at the wonderful Owl/Moth image by Nancy Fouts.

I wish I could find a contemporary painting I like as much as Cecily Brown's work but I guess I'll have to save up.

Over and out,
Dinny

I'd like to give you a few tips every now and then about how to look after your jewellery. So if you love your jewellery like I do, watch this space!

Diamond Crown Studs

DIAMOND STUDS- take them off at night (when you remember) and put them into an egg cup of vodka or gin. In the morning *put the plug in the sink* and clean with soap and an old toothbrush- rinse...
... you have your sparkles back!

TANGLED NECKLACES- hang your long necklaces which tend to tangle (so you never wear them) on a hanger at the end of your wardrobe. To protect use a sheet of tissue paper folded over.

Our Talitha Chain Necklace is so delicate it's one to be watched for tangling

Here's to Hoops!

Hoops have always been my most favourite piece of jewellery. I've probably designed hundreds of different types of hoops over the years.

We've had more pictures of hoops in the glossy mags than any other item of jewellery. Here are some of my favorite shots from over the years-

Lily Donaldson wearing the ever-popular Toro Hoops
available online.
Vintage Hoops from the 90s
Dinny Hall Signature Hoops
Lilly Allen, who is often spotted wearing DH jewellery, in the gold signature hoops

Here is our beautiful model Christina wearing Toro and sitting on a bath in my cousin's fabulous hotel Rushton Hall Hotel in Northamptonshire. Check out the Alexander McQueen shoes, chosen especially to match the marble floor!

To celebrate the continued success of the Toro collection we would like to offer our customers a 25% discount on our Toro Oval Hoops in sterling silver. Available for three weeks only (until 21st September), buy in store or online.

Dinny Hall's Vintage Jewellery- Looking Back

no.3

We've got several of these giant beaded necklaces with tassels adorning the walls in our Head Office at Westbourne Grove (see right), but they were once draped around the necks of famous models on the catwalk in the late eighties, when Dinny created catwalk collections for the amazing Rifat Ozbek. You can see below how they were piled up to make real impact on his vivid creations.

If you look back at older posts you can see another collection Dinny made for Rifat Ozbek out of bold star and moon shapes.

Dinny Hall's Vintage Jewellery- Looking Back

no.2

This photograph was shot by the wonderful Peter Lindbergh for Italian Vogue in 1986 and features Dinny's tasseled earrings. She'd only just graduated but was already getting lots of media attention for her bold, cutting-edge designs.

Dinny Hall's Vintage Jewellery- Looking Back

no.1

Looking at her recent designs Dinny recalls how she still uses the same shapes she was inspired by when first starting out as a jeweller in the mid-eighties. Over the next few weeks we will be blogging some of Dinny's vintage designs over the last 28 years, from her detailed ethnic designs to her bold, statement catwalk jewellery, looking at ho.
Inspired by formal pattern and architectural shapes from the far east, these pieces from the Alhambra collection, set with garnets and tourmalines, were sold to Liberty of London all those years ago. Here are two interpretations of how her jewellery was used in photo shoots- you can see how well they went with the new romantic eighties look!

Re-introducing the Almond Briolette collection

The briolette cut is originally a pear shaped gemstone cut with multiple triangular facets- it is usually suspended rather than set, so best suited to earrings or pendants.

First cut about 80 years ago India or then 'Persia' this cut was made popular in Victorian times. The most precious briolette is the Smithsonian- a 275 ct 55g diamond presented by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1811 to his Empress consort Marie Louise (his tart on the side!).

In her 'Hollywood' collection 10 years ago Dinny resurrected this great cut, re-designing it into her own cut the 'Almond Cut'.
